Your eyes deceive you - you aren't actually looking through a monitor at people looking at sharks looking through a monitor. They don't look convincing at any point and only serve to pull the viewer 'out of the movie' every time they appear on screen. While Deep Blue Sea 3's budget was only €5 million (small change compared to The Meg, which cost upward of $130 million to make), the CGI sharks look like they came from a production that cost a whole lot less than that. Ironically, the computer-generated sharks, the very thing we came here to see, are very much sub-par. Indeed, the set design and general backdrops make for a film that is quite easy on the eye - for the most part.ĭespite some impressive underwater photography, there is a pretty large fly in the ointment which takes away from the film's otherwise pleasing aesthetic the sharks themselves. That said, the transition from the high tech underwater research facilities of previous outings to a floating African shanty town makes for a nice change of scenery. Let's be honest though, nobody is tuning in to watch the third installment of a franchise centred around sharks attacking people in funky locations for its inventive storytelling. That doesn't sit too well with Emma and her crew, but an uneasy alliance is formed regardless as our makeshift team of shark hunters attempt to stop the super sharks from killing everything in sight. Indeed, the former are genetically engineered super sharks, while the latter and his cronies are part of a 'clean up' crew sent to capture and contain an evil mega corporation's escaped "assets". In case you haven't guessed, the bull sharks aren't any ordinary fishies and Richard isn't your run-of-the-mill scientist either. When their arrival is swiftly followed by an unexpected visit from Emma's handsome ex-boyfriend Richard (Nathaniel Buzolic) and his buff 'associates', things start to get fishy indeed. When a trio of unusually large and aggressive bull sharks show up, things start to get ugly. Our story kicks off at the picturesque research station of a beautiful marine biologist Emma (Tania Raymonde) and her photogenic colleagues, who are studying great white sharks off the coast of Mozambique.

While the latest installment in the series is indeed a direct follow-up to its predecessor, no prior knowledge of the franchise is needed to watch and understand it. "We're gonna need a bigger harpoon gun" - Image Credit: Roserock Films
